THE QUESTION

Ask Josh About Holistic Training

Hey Josh, I have seen a lot of fitness and wellness coaches use the term “holistic training” lately. What does holistic training mean exactly and how is that different than a traditional training program?

THE ANSWER

Josh's Answer

I label myself as a holistic fitness and wellness coach for a couple of reasons and let me explain what the difference is between that and a fitness trainer.

A standard training program will focus on the clients needs to obtain a certain, set goal or outcome. Weight loss, endurance, mobility, and strength training are examples of common desired outcomes of a client. A professional trainer will develop a program and will guide the client to achieve those results. More often, that is where the trainers’ job ends.

A holistic fitness and wellness coach takes a comprehensive approach to health and well-being, considering the connection of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of a program created for the client. Think of it as eastern and western philosophies merging. We go beyond just exercise and nutrition to additionally address lifestyle factors such as stress management, sleep quality, and personal growth.

We aim to create a balanced and sustainable approach to fitness and wellness that encompasses all areas of a person’s life. This may incorporate practices such as yoga, meditation, mindfulness, and personalized nutrition plans to help achieve optimal health. For me, longevity is imperative. And to achieve that, one must strive for the highest levels of fitness and mental health that is possible for them. A professional holistic coach, like myself, is there to guide you through that journey and to make sense of the connection between the four areas.

This is why I suggest looking farther into your timespan to see what you really want your overall health to look like, inside and out, and to find a coach that is qualified to help optimize the 4 pillars of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Remember, longevity is key!
