THE QUESTION

Josh - new year goals

Hi Josh, with the end of the year coming up so quickly, what should I do to get my head right for the new year; both mentally and physically?

THE ANSWER

Josh's Answer

The new year is fastly coming upon us and it’s very smart to proactively think and start some preparations in order to set ourselves up for success and the warrior mindset.

So, how can we prepare ourselves and set up for peace and warrior mode both mentally and physically?

I’m always going to advocate a mindful meditation practice into your daily life.  It’s without a doubt the first step into peace and clarity in your head.  With this, we are able to clearly set goals and do a bit of mind mapping for our brains and our bodies.

As the year draws to a close, preparing for the new one requires aligning our mental and physical health to ensure a fresh and focused start. Mentally, reflection and reassessment are valuable practices. Taking time to look back on the past year helps clarify what worked well and what could improve. This reflection allows us to approach the new year with a sense of purpose, letting go of what didn’t serve us and carrying forward what did.

Setting clear, realistic goals can also create a guiding framework, helping us move with intention rather than reacting to whatever comes our way. These goals should be both specific and achievable, providing motivation without feeling overwhelming.

A powerful tool to stay centered during this period is mindfulness. Regular meditation, breathwork, or simply taking a few moments to ground ourselves can alleviate stress and keep our focus in the present. By practicing mindfulness now, we can build resilience and enter the new year with a calm, clear mindset.

In terms of physical preparation, taking care of our bodies through good sleep, nutrition, and exercise is essential. Rest is often sacrificed in the busy holiday season, but committing to consistent, quality sleep can drastically improve our mood, focus, and energy. Nutrition also plays a pivotal role. Enjoying holiday foods in moderation is part of the season’s joy, but balancing it with nutrient-dense meals can prevent the sluggishness often felt during this time. Regular exercise is equally important. Keeping up with workouts, whether through a structured program or enjoyable activities like hiking or dancing, helps manage stress, boosts endorphins, and prepares our bodies for a new start.
