George T. Stagg - BTAC - 2014

George T. Stagg is a part of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection.  The bourbon is aged in new charred oak barrels for at least 15 years.  It is a powerful product that is packs a real punch because it is uncut and unfiltered, thus it is 138.1 proof.  You can open it up with a a little water to bring down the abv and bring out some of the flavors.

The nose is woody and fruity with a little spice.  The taste is sweet and boozy to start, then thick and woody.  The water brings out more sweet carmel, vanilla and coffee.  Even with the addition of water the heat comes through.

George T. Stagg is an interesting product with a long age, unfiltered and barrel proof bottling.  It is a robust flavor with the oak from the barrel and booze shining through and overall is a fun product to try if you can track down the “deer”.
