Old Scout 7 Year Bourbon

Smooth Ambler is a relatively new to bourbon distilling, founded in West Virginia in 2009, but they have quickly established themselves with a solid slate of products.

The Old Scout straight Bourbon Whiskey is aged at least 7 years in old barrels.  It is distilled with high rye mash bill at 36% and bottled at 99 proof.  The nose is sweet with caramel and a hint of booze.  The taste is woody and earthy with some fruit notes that balance it out nicely.  The woody notes carry over to the finish where some spicy, astringent notes mingle for a solid finish.

Overall a nice pour with some age and flavor profile that will keep you reaching for more.
