High West Yippee Ki-Yay

High West took their Double Rye product and added it to barrels that had been used to age both Vermouth and Syrah.  The creation is a blend of Rye Whiskeys that High West hopes make you say ‘Yippee Ki-Yay’, like the cowboy on the bottle.

The bottle I sampled was Batch No. 2.  The nose is spicy with sweet fruit notes mingling in.  The taste again starts with some spice and heat but that balances nicely with some of the rich, sweet fruit notes.  The finish is thick and sweet fruit with a spicy cinnamon vein.

A solid pour that is not as sweet as some of the other barrel aged products on the market – the rye is a nice spicy contrast to some of the barrel aged flavors.
