How Do You Use Arbutin?
It seems like every time we turn around there’s a new beauty trend, concept, or product hitting the market. With social media being what it is today, it almost seems impossible to scroll through and not come across the newest in skin care. Arbutin is one of the latest skin care products trending upwards and gaining popularity. But what is it?
Extracted from the bearberry plant, Arbutin is a cosmeceutical that can help fade hyperpigmentation from a variety of causes. If you’re experiencing discoloration, whether it be from post acne breakouts, melasma, sun spots, or age spots – this might be a great addition to your skin care routine. These topicals generally work for all skin types and are a bit less harsh than other options, like hydroquinone. With that being said, it’s still always a great idea to do a patch test when trying something new.
You can find this ingredient in a variety of products, so it’s easy to deliver the benefits in whichever form fits your beauty routine the best. Serums? Check. Masks? Check. Creams or gels? You know it. While there is both, alpha-arbutin and beta-arbutin, it’s important to note that A-arbutin is more stable – and is more or less the go-to if deciding between the two.
Is it Even Worth It?
We think it’s worth a try. We’re no strangers to discoloration over here. As we get older, we’re always open to trying products that claim to brighten and even skin tone overall. If you’re blessed with amazing skin (lucky!), you may not necessarily need to add arbutin to your product arsenal. But quite honestly, the interest this option has grown quite a bit over the past few years and people seem to be on board. While some beauty trends can deliver more immediate (but temporary) results – like our gua sha tools and our beloved ice globes, these topicals can take a couple of months to kick in and make a difference.
So if you’re looking to give this trend a try, we’ve found some great options below, including:
