What Is It?
The Birkenstock brand dates back to 1774. Nope, you ready that correctly. 1774. Throughout the years (and lifetimes) they’ve been updated, reworked, and have been reinvented more times than Madonna. It wasn’t until last year that we actually kind of forgot all about them. We remember them from the 90’s and then, well, what happened?
Our favorite teenager (ugh) asked us to buy them a pair of Birkenstocks and we were confused. Apparently all her friends were wearing them to school and it didn’t matter the season because they were wearing them all year round. Now we knew our kids basically lived in their slides, but this was entirely new territory to us. At the time they actually wanted the rubber waterproof ones. We didn’t even know they existed, but we picked up a couple of pairs (in all different colors, of course) for our daughters and even our son (who demanded the camo green option). To this day, they still live in them, but now our whole entire family has different pairs we all sport. Don’t worry, there are all different styles so we don’t look like The Brady Bunch.
