We absolutely, 100% hopped on the collagen powder bandwagon long ago. Over 2 years ago to be exact. Sure we’re not a hard sell when it comes to newer beauty trends – we’re easily intrigued! But that doesn’t mean we jump first and ask questions later. Due to our never ending analysis paralysis, we tend to research something within an inch of its life. We actually brought our container of collagen peptides into our doctor to find out if we’d grow a third arm. After she gave us her opinion that it was safe to use, but beware of the possibility that powders can cause constipation (Yikes! Thankfully that wasn’t an issue. TMI? Moving on), we gave it a go.
What Is It?
Collagen powder is a collagen boosting supplement, and is believed to help build the essential nutrient that can be stripped from our diets. We also know that the production of collagen slows as we age. Great! As a result, adding these supplements to our daily diet can add to our body’s building blocks – benefitting our skin, hair, nails, bones and joints. But you know the drill: These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

There are plenty of options here if it’s something you’re looking into. They carry powders (marine powders as well), various supplements for skin and hair, drinks – like waters, shots and coffee roasters, as well as collagen bars in several flavors. It goes without saying that supplements of any kind can be pricey, so we like the fact that you can grab smaller sizes and give it a try before fully committing. Their best selling original powder is available in a 5 ounce jar (about 7 servings), and you can also mix up your own sample pack of 5 for around $10. This can be a great way to sample different flavors, or simply an easy way to take them on the go for travel.
With that being said, we’ve enjoyed using collagen powder for the past couple of years, and feel like it has definitely made a difference. Sure, everyone’s experience is relative. Some swear by using these type of supplements, while others are still waiting for the dramatic results. For us, it was a bit subtle – but definitely noticeable. There was an improvement in the health of our hair, and nails, and they both grew a bit faster. But one of the other possible benefits actually snuck up on us. So much so, that it took about 3 weeks to figure it out. Waking up with plantar fasciitis had been the norm. Not debilitating, but it took a few minutes to shake it off in the morning for sure. Somewhere around week three, we realized we stopped waking up with it. A physical therapist friend has his doubts, but it’s the only thing we had done differently! And over two years later it still hasn’t returned.
