For a couple of years now I have been enamored by parkour and urban exploring. Ever since I saw a YouTube video of some snowboarders shredding the terrain created by a recent snowfall in a defunct Detroit warehouse I have taken to the concept of urban exploring. So what is urban exploring? Urban exploration is the exploration of man-made structures, usually abandoned ruins or not usually seen components of the man-made environment. So tighten the belt on your jeans, lace up your shell toes, snug up your hoodie, and cinch the straps on your backpack ’cause it is time to get down with the derelicts.
You can’t head down the manhole though without the proper gear. And in a world that is void of light, harnesses, and basic communication reception, it is important to know what gear you need to get gritty.
