Halloween is just around the corner. My kids love Halloween….the planning, the sugar high and changing their mind 346 times on what they want to be. They wanted to make some decorations the other day, but let’s just say it like it is- time’s a factor. There isn’t a ton of extra time these days (I forgot to eat lunch yesterday), so we decided on these “mummy lanterns.” I’m not kidding when I say they took under 10 minutes, my kids thought they were really cool and honestly…they are pretty darn cute on the mantle.
You’ll need:
A Ball Jar
Googly Eyes
Glue (I used ‘Zots’ glue dots)
Gauze
Battery Operated Tea Light
Get Crackin‘:
Simply glue 2 googly eyes onto the smooth side of the Ball Jar. I used glue dots for less mess and they actually stuck to the glass. A glue gun would work as well, but I don’t even have time to wait for the glue to heat up….oh, and I don’t own one. Not to mention, my kids would probably find a way to glue themselves to each other after burning a hole in their clothes.
Wrap some gauze around your jar, avoiding the eyes. I started at the bottom and ended at the top. (Shout out to Drake). I had an actual roll of gauze on hand, but anything from the fabric store, tulle or textured ribbon would probably work. A bonus with the gauze: it adheres to itself as you wind. Secure the very end with a glue dot in the back to prevent it from unraveling.
Drop a tea light inside to light it up. That’s all!
It also took 2 minutes to clean up…and 1 minute and 30 seconds of that was me putting 150 googly eyes back into the bag.
