Whiskey Sour

It is always helpful to know how to make a few cocktails, not from a recipe but from practice. Those cocktails need not include liquid nitrogen or exotic fruits from halfway around the globe; in fact it is best to know how to make a few classic cocktails.

The Whiskey Sour is the definition of classic and surprisingly versatile for both the summer and the winter.

Whiskey Sour:

1 Cup Crushed Ice

2 oz. Bourbon or Rye

2 oz. Lemon Juice

1 tbsp. Simple Syrup

1 Egg White

Dash or Two of Angostura Bitters

Garnish with Cherries

Please don’t cut any corners with this cocktail; it will make all the difference in the finished product, so crush some ice. Add to the ice the Bourbon, fresh squeezed lemon juice, simple syrup and an egg white.   Shake until frothy and strain into a glass, add a few dashes of bitters to the top and garnish with cherries. Brandied cherries are great or soak maraschino cherries in bourbon or rye for a few hours

Don’t be squeamish about the raw egg but please buy very fresh eggs. The egg gives the drink body and creates the frothy head.

*Raw eggs shouldn’t be served to everyone; consuming raw may increase your risk of foodborne illness, especially if you have certain medical conditions.
