kc_0015_rye_of__large The Old Fashioned is not a difficult cocktail to master.  However, there are a couple of steps that can slow you down if you are trying to whip one up quickly.  If you skip these essential steps then the the drink is not quite the same. Muddling is a major time suck and one for which I do not have patience.  But, if you don’t do it the sugar won’t dissolve and the drink will not resemble a traditional Old Fashioned.  My trick, use blue agave syrup instead of sugar.

INGREDIENTS:

2 teaspoons of Blue Agave Syrup
3 dashes Angostura Bitters
Splash of Club Soda
2 oz Rye
Glass: Rocks

PREPARATION:
In a rocks glass, combine the Agave Syrup, the Angostura Bitters and a splash of Club soda.   Swirl the mixture so it coats the side of the glass,  Add the Rye and a few large ice cubes and stir.

And for the love of God, please do not put any fruit in this drink, if you must garnish a twist (not wedge) of lemon will suffice.
