There are places that over time can feel like home, as if you are in your own kitchen.  Bluecoast has become that restaurant for us.  Situated on Route 1 in Delaware, about a mile north of Bethany Beach, Bluecoast overlooks the Salt Pond.   The dinning room itself is very noisy so the bar is a great option.  There is an excellent raw bar and if you are lucky enough to go on a Thursday there are dollar oysters.  I would recommend a dozen of the Chincoteague Salts, a small, briny oyster from the north shore of Virginia.

The menu changes daily with a full sheet of specials each night.  A few items standout as must have dishes.  The fried lobster tails to start are a fantastic dish presented with the shell on but the meat pulled out, almost like a large shrimp.  The seared tuna changes seasonally, in the summer it is over a greek salad and in the fall on top of a butternut squash puree.  The quality of the tuna is some of the best you will find, coming in fresh from North Carolina a few times a week.  The shrimp and grits are a must.  The grits are creamy and smooth enough that you could mistake them for polenta – I could eat them every night.  Finally don’t forget the tater tots, some nights they might come with vinegar or maybe parmesan and garlic; they will remind you of middle school and oddly taste nothing like it.

Ask Tyler who works the bar most nights to make you a cocktail or pick you out the perfect wine and you might start to feel like you are right at home too.
