With all the recent horrific allegations against Bill Cosby, we’ve been left wondering why most members from his TV family (via The Cosby Show) have been silent. Well that’s now changed since Phylicia Rashad has now gone on record in defense of her longtime television husband of 12 years.
In an article on the website ShowBiz411, apparently Phylicia Rashad was at a luncheon for the movie Selma and spoke about Cosby for the first time, really, publicly. She stated that she didn’t really want to become part of the public debate, but did decide to support her friend. Among some of what she said,
Forget these women. What you’re seeing is the destruction of a legacy. And I think it’s orchestrated. I don’t know why or who’s doing it, but it’s the legacy. And it’s a legacy that is so important to the culture.”
Rashad told the interviewer that she “loved” Cosby and never witnessed anything like what these women are alleging. Could all of this be part of a conspiracy? Rashad continued,
Someone is determined to keep Bill Cosby off TV. And it’s worked. All his contracts have been cancelled.”
And finally, when asked about two of the more famous women who have publicly come out against Cosby, Beverly Johnson and Janice Dickinson, Rashad simply replied with,
Here’s the thing. We may never know what really happened all those years ago, but what we do know is that no one wins in this situation. No one. If you’re innocent of these allegations the damage has already been done and you’ve suffered. If you’re guilty and nothing happens, we’re continuing to set the standard that you should keep quiet about sexual abuse. Either way, no one wins.
